Living in Melbourne means you have to be prepared for all sorts of weather, so getting dressed in the morning can sometimes be a little tricky. Trousers or skirt? Long sleeves or short? The solution? A glorious coat to snuggle up in!
I already own two beautiful Winter coats but when I saw the Hell Bunny Elvira coat I couldn’t help myself, I had to have it.
Now the hard part was deciding what colour to get. The Elvira is available in Black, Burgundy and Deep Green. While black goes with everything and burgundy seems to really agree with me I couldn’t get past that deep teal green. Being the bargain hunter I am and since the Australia dollar is so low, I searched online for a couple days to find the best price. I was lucky enough to find it in stock at Retro Glam Clothing online and on sale too, just use discount code SALE20. So I placed an order that day and within a week I had my brand new coat all the way from Canada! How’s that for service! Here’s a bargain hunting tip, the Aussie dollar is currently pretty close to the Canadian dollar! I know! Game changer, right?
Anyway….back to Elvira.
Hell Bunny sizing seems to be pretty notorious for being a little inconsistent. According to the size chart, my bust at 42″ puts me in the 2XL but the waist for this size is 37″ whereas my waist is 33″. To be safe I went with my usual size xl which caters for a 39″ bust and 34″ waist. After trying it on wish I had of gotten a size large. The XL is too loose at the waist for my liking which I have remedied with a velvet Hell Bunny belt as I prefer a more fitted look. I advise asking for flat measurements where possible as the size chart seems to be way off!
When I received my coat and got to see it in person it was quite a shock, but I wasn’t disappointed. The colour was nothing like how it appears in the stock photos. It’s not a deep teal at all like it appears in photos, it’s more of a dark forest green which I actually prefer. Another thing you can’t really tell by looking at the stock photo is how far up the sleeve the fur cuffs come. As you can see on me, they come up quite high but that just makes it possible to create a pretty vintage fur muff look if you find yourself without gloves on chilly Winter’s day.
The coat is a soft 90% Polyester, 8% Viscose, 2% Elastane blend and is fully lined making it lightweight but very warm. The faux fur itself is so soft and cosy and much better quality in my opinion in comparison to other faux fur trims I own; which can be quite itchy and irritating on my skin. This was such a relief to me because this coat has a faux fur lined hood, so being able to actually use the hood without feeling itchy is a wonderful thing.
The coat features 5 self fabric covered buttons that stop just below the waist with enough space in between each button to be able to wear a belt if you’d prefer a more fitted look. The seams at the bust and waist are designed to create shape but since this is too big, this detail gets lost on me. The box pleats and full skirt means you can easily wear it over your favourite petticoat. With all these nice features my favourite has got to be the two side pockets! Yay for pockets!
Melbourne Winter, I am ready for you, do your worst!
Not really, I still want you to be over but at least I’ll be stylish and warm while I grumble about the miserable weather.
The Elvira coat retails for $229.51AUD but is currently on sale for $137.29 AUD with an additional 20% off for a limited time only from Retro Glam Clothing.
